Minerals Ministry, agencies strategize to deliver 2025/26 Parliamentary promises

By The Respondents Reporter

The Ministry of Minerals has intensified efforts to implement promises made in Parliament for the 2025/26 financial year.

Permanent Secretary Eng. Yahya Samamba led a management meeting with the Ministry and its agencies to review strategies aimed at achieving the commitments presented by Minister of Minerals, Hon. Anthony Mavunde.

Key priorities for this year include boosting government revenue from the sector, increasing its contribution to the national economy, promoting investment and value addition in minerals, formalizing small-scale miners, strengthening gemstone auctions and exhibitions, and expanding exploration activities.

Eng. Samamba urged strict implementation of these plans to maximize the sector’s impact on national development.

The Executive Secretary of the Minerals Commission, Eng. Ramadhan Lwamo, announced that a contractor for managing international gemstone auctions has been secured.

The auctions are expected to attract more investment, generate foreign exchange, ensure fair market pricing, and promote transparency, while also providing local miners with reliable markets.

Meanwhile, the National Mining Corporation (STAMICO) confirmed progress on the Lindi salt processing plant, which is expected to start operations in February 2026, helping local producers overcome market challenges.
