More than 10,700 villages across Tanzania now have access to clean and safe water, a move that is transforming daily life for millions of citizens, Minister for Water, Hon. Jumaa Aweso, said on January 28, 2025.
Speaking in Dodoma, Minister Aweso explained that the Sixth Phase Government has invested TSh 3 trillion over the past four years to address persistent water shortages, particularly in rural areas.
The Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) alone has received TZS 1.8 trillion to expand water services to villages.
For families in these communities, access to clean water means children can attend school instead of spending hours fetching water, women have more time for economic activities, and families enjoy better health.
During President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s tenure, 7,929 villages gained water services, setting a record in the country’s history. With only 1,575 villages still without water, the Ministry of Water has vowed to continue working until no community is left behind.
“RUWASA has made a real difference by ensuring that investments directly improve the lives of ordinary citizens,” Minister Aweso said, noting that the ministry has shifted from being complaint-driven to results-driven, delivering tangible benefits for Tanzanians.
