Government moves to reduce traffic jams on Kibaha–Chalinze road

By The Respondents Reporter

The government has taken steps to ease traffic congestion along the busy Kibaha–Chalinze road, a key route linking Dar es Salaam to Morogoro.

Speaking in Parliament today, Minister of Construction, Abdallah Ulega, said short-term measures are being implemented to help commuters reach their destinations faster.

He was responding to a question from Special Seats MP for Pwani Region, Hawa Mchafu, on the progress of the eight-lane road project and actions to address traffic jams.

One immediate solution is the reopening and repair of the old road, which previously handled traffic before the current road was built but is now overwhelmed by heavy vehicles.

The government is also working closely with the police to remove vehicles that break down, which often block traffic.

On the long-term plan, Minister Ulega said the eight-lane road project from Kibaha–Chalinze to Morogoro is in its early stages.

After disagreements with the previous contractor, the government has relaunched the tender process, and the selection of a new contractor is progressing well.

“These measures will reduce travel time, improve safety, and ease the daily struggle for thousands of commuters,” he said.
