Uyole Member of Parliament and Director of Tulia Trust, Dr Tulia Ackson, has reinforced her commitment to education equity by distributing school supplies to thousands of needy pupils in the constituency.
Dr Tulia, who is also the former Speaker of the National Assembly and President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), handed over school uniforms and exercise books to 3,000 pupils drawn from 13 wards in Uyole.
The support is part of an ongoing initiative aimed at easing the burden on vulnerable families and ensuring children remain in school, particularly at the start of the academic term.
Addressing parents and teachers during the exercise, Dr Tulia underscored the shared responsibility of safeguarding children’s education, urging close cooperation between families and schools.
She said improved academic performance depends largely on commitment from both teachers and parents in supervising learners and supporting their educational journey.
She also praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for sustained government investment in the education sector, particularly in infrastructure development.
Dr Tulia noted that under the Sixth Phase Government, significant progress has been made in the construction of new schools and classrooms, as well as the rehabilitation of learning facilities nationwide.
According to her, the improved infrastructure is creating a more conducive learning environment and motivating pupils to perform better academically, while contributing to the long-term growth of the education sector.
