The Mbeya Regional Police have detained Ms. Getruda Japhet Lengesela, Chairperson of the Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA) in Mbeya Rural District, over allegations of incitement and other criminal offenses.
According to a statement released to the media on Friday, January 23, 2026, by the Mbeya Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Benjamin Kuzaga, Ms. Lengesela, a resident of Nsalala, Mbalizi, was arrested in the early hours of Thursday, January 22, at around 3:00 a.m. in Nsalala town.
“The suspect is currently in our custody as investigations continue. Further legal measures will be taken against her once the investigation is concluded,” the statement said.
Police have urged the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course, noting that the case is under careful review to ensure adherence to the law.
