Film board joins conservation drive ahead of Kilimanjaro documentary

The Tanzania Film Board has participated in early preparatory activities for the production of the second season of the documentary series "Guardians of the Peak," officials said.

The board’s Executive Secretary, Dr Gervas Kasiga, led the activities held in the Kilimanjaro Region on Tuesday, which included tree planting and environmental awareness campaigns for communities living around Mount Kilimanjaro.

Primary school pupils from Kaloleni and students from Msasani and Bomambuzi secondary schools participated in the activities as part of efforts to instill a culture of environmental conservation among younger generations.

The production has brought together various environmental stakeholders, including Taifa Gas, which distributed cooking gas cylinders to residents in surrounding areas to promote the use of clean energy and reduce pressure on forest resources.

The initiative aligns with the government’s broader environmental agenda under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, who has emphasised environmental protection and the transition to clean energy, officials said.

Organisers said the documentary project highlights the role of film in promoting tourism, raising environmental awareness, and passing conservation values to future generations.

The Tanzania Film Board has called on filmmakers and performing artists to use storytelling as a platform to promote tourism attractions and environmental conservation, noting that such efforts can also generate income for the creative industry and the country at large.
