Business community urged to file estimates and pay taxes on time

The Sumbawanga District Commissioner, Nyakia Ally Chirukile, has urged business operators to file tax estimates and pay their taxes on time, saying the move is vital for sustaining national development and economic growth.

Speaking at his office on January 20, 2026, during a meeting with officials from the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), DC Chirukile said tax revenue remains a key driver of public service delivery and infrastructure development across the country.

The meeting also served to introduce the TRA team and officially announce the door-to-door tax education campaign, which will run from January 20 to January 30, 2026, in Rukwa Region.

He emphasized that timely tax compliance enables the Government to fund priority sectors such as health, education, water and roads, while strengthening the overall economy.

“I call upon all businesspeople to prepare accurate tax estimates and pay their taxes on time so that we can collectively support economic growth and national development,” said DC Chirukile.

The District Commissioner further urged traders to cooperate with the tax education teams that will visit business premises to provide tax education and collect feedback.

He said the exercise offers an opportunity for traders to gain a clear understanding of tax laws, raise concerns, and contribute suggestions that will help improve tax administration and service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of TRA, the Head of the Tax Education Team and Chief Public Relations Officer, Mr. Macdonald Mwakasendile, said the door-to-door tax education programme has been conducted for several years with positive outcomes.

He noted that the initiative has strengthened trust and cooperation between taxpayers and TRA while increasing public awareness of tax obligations.

Mr. Mwakasendile encouraged business operators to take full advantage of the campaign to seek clarification on tax issues, receive guidance, and share their views to help TRA improve its services.

TRA has been implementing the door-to-door tax education programme by directly engaging traders at their business premises, a strategy that has significantly enhanced taxpayer understanding and compliance, while fostering a cooperative relationship between the Authority and the business community.
