The Ministry of Health has launched an investigation into operations at Temeke Hospital following reports of serious service delivery lapses, including alleged bribery, intimidation of patients and the suspension of key diagnostic services.
In a public statement issued in Dodoma on December 26, 2025, the ministry said it had received complaints that some services at the hospital, including X-ray examinations, had been disrupted.
The reports further allege that certain health workers demanded bribes from patients to access services that are supposed to be provided free of charge, while others were denied treatment altogether.
According to the statement, some staff members are also accused of intimidating patients and deliberately obstructing service provision, actions that violate professional ethics and public service regulations.
Health Minister Mohammed Mchengerwa said the government views the allegations with grave concern, noting that such practices undermine public trust in the health system and deny patients their fundamental right to healthcare.
He has directed the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr Seif Shekalaghe, to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter to establish the root causes of the reported disruptions and identify those responsible.
The ministry said firm legal and administrative action will be taken against any individuals found to have breached the law, professional standards or public service regulations.
Mr Mchengerwa also issued a warning to health workers across the country, urging them to uphold integrity, professionalism and accountability in serving patients.
He stressed that the government will not tolerate corruption, abuse of power or any form of misconduct that compromises access to quality healthcare services. The statement was issued by the Government Chief Spokesperson, John Mapepele.
