The Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has issued an apology to customers after a major technical fault in the national grid caused widespread power outages across several regions on Sunday evening.

In a public statement released from its headquarters in Dodoma, TANESCO said the disruption stemmed from an unexpected fault within the national transmission system, resulting in loss of power in a number of regions.

Those affected include Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Manyara, Tanga, Katavi, Kigoma, Mara, Simiyu, Dodoma, Singida, Tabora, Geita, Songwe, Mwanza and Shinyanga.

The utility company assured the public that technical teams are on the ground working round the clock to restore electricity supply as quickly as possible.

“Our specialists are continuing intensive efforts to bring power back to all affected regions,” the statement said. TANESCO further extended its regret for the inconvenience caused to homes, businesses and essential service providers.

The notice was released by the Directorate of Communications and Customer Service at TANESCO Headquarters.
