Taifa Stars gear up for AFCON 2025 as squad ready to take on Africa's Best

The Tanzania national football team, Taifa Stars, has completed its final phase of preparations in Egypt and is now heading to Morocco for the AFCON 2025 finals, buoyed by confidence and a strong sense of purpose. 

A 28-man squad has been assembled for the continental showpiece, blending experience with emerging talent as the team seeks to make a strong impression against Africa’s elite.

The squad includes goalkeepers Yakoub Suleiman of Simba SC, Hussein Masalanga of Singida BS and Zuberi Foba from Azam FC. 


The defensive unit features Bakari Mwamnyeto of Young Africans, Shomari Kapombe and Nickson Kibabage from Simba SC, Lusajo Mwaikenda of Azam FC, Mohamed Hussein of Young Africans, Alphonse Mkabule who plays for Shamakhi in Azerbaijan, Wilson Nnang of Simba SC and Novatus Dismas from Göztepe FC in Turkey.

In midfield, the team will rely on the energy and creativity of Kelvin Nashon of Tanda Jiji, Pascal Msindo of Azam FC, Haji Mnoga from Salford City in England, Dickson Job and Ibrahim Abdulla of Young Africans, Habibu Iddi from Singida BS, Tarryn Allouche of Rochdale AFC in England, Charles Mombwa from Floriana FC in Malta, Morice Abraham of Simba SC and influential playmaker Feisal Salum of Azam FC.

The attacking line is spearheaded by Ahmed Pipino, Abdul Suleiman and Iddi Selemani, all from Azam FC, alongside experienced forwards Mbwana Samatta of Le Havre in France, Elias Maguli, Shomari Lawi who plays for Aalborg BK in Denmark, and Simon Msuva of Al-Talaba in Iraq.

Head coach Miguel Gamondi has expressed strong belief in his squad, insisting the team is well prepared to face Africa’s top sides. 


Taifa Stars have been drawn in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and Uganda, a challenging pool that will test the team’s depth and resilience.

The players have undergone intensive training sessions as they fine-tune tactics and build match sharpness ahead of the tournament. 

Team captain Mbwana Samatta said the squad is fully committed to giving its best and representing Tanzania with pride on the continental stage.


Taifa Stars will open their AFCON 2025 campaign against Nigeria on December 23 at Fez Stadium in a midday kickoff East Africa Time. 

They will then face Uganda on December 27 at Al Barid Stadium in Rabat before concluding the group stage against Tunisia on December 30 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Olympic Annex Stadium in Rabat.

With growing anticipation among fans back home, Taifa Stars are determined to rise to the occasion. Coach Gamondi reiterated that the team is ready to compete with the best Africa has to offer, as Tanzania looks to write a memorable chapter in its AFCON history.
