The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has called on leaders to utilize international platforms to promote Zanzibar's economic opportunities, particularly in the Blue Economy and investment sectors.
Dr. Mwinyi made the appeal during a meeting with Deputy Ministers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr. Ngwaru Jumanne Maghembe and James Kinyasi Millya, who paid a courtesy call on him at the Zanzibar State House on December 19, 2025.
The President emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Union government and the Zanzibar Revolutionary Government to maximize benefits from economic diplomacy and international opportunities.
"Zanzibar has numerous economic opportunities, especially in the Blue Economy and investment sectors. We urge the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation to use international platforms to promote these opportunities and attract investments," Dr. Mwinyi said.
He also stressed the need for the ministry to prioritize Zanzibar's participation in international forums to tap into development and economic opportunities.
Dr. Mwinyi expressed satisfaction with the existing cooperation between the ministry and the Zanzibar government, pledging to continue working closely with the leaders to serve Tanzanians, including Zanzibar residents, effectively.
The Deputy Ministers, Dr. Maghembe and Mr. Millya, congratulated Dr. Mwinyi on his re-election and praised his efforts to develop Zanzibar. They commended the government's progress in healthcare, education, and infrastructure development, promising to implement the President's directives and advice.
The meeting aimed to strengthen ties and explore ways to promote Zanzibar's economic interests globally.
Dr. Mwinyi highlighted Zanzibar's strategic location and natural resources, making it an attractive destination for investors.
However, the government has identified key sectors, including tourism, agriculture, and fisheries, as priority areas for investment.
