Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba has called on Tanzanians to remain steadfast in protecting the country’s peace and unity, cautioning that a small group of individuals with personal interests is attempting to sow division and incite unrest.
Speaking during his working tour in Arusha Region, Dr. Nchemba said intelligence reports and recent incidents point to the involvement of people who are financing disruptions and recruiting youths to participate in acts that threaten national stability.
He noted that those behind the incitement often disguise their intentions with misleading narratives, yet their primary goal is to push citizens into conflict while positioning themselves to benefit from the nation’s resources.
“Look at the nature of the disturbances we have recently witnessed—why are we not alarmed?” he said.
“Funds were issued, youths were approached, and those youths were instructed to mobilise others for violent actions. We must ask: who is financing this, what do they expect in return, and who was leading these so-called demonstrations? Where were they headed and with what agenda? Tanzanians are being manipulated, and it is time to wake up.”he added
Addressing residents at the Magufuli Grounds in Leganga, Usa River, Arumeru District, the Prime Minister warned that any threat to peace would undermine the government’s ability to tackle key national challenges, including poverty, unemployment and the rising cost of living.
He stressed that Tanzania’s progress is directly tied to its continued stability, urging the public—particularly young people—not to succumb to misinformation, pressure or financial incentives meant to push them into breaking the law.
“If we lose peace, our ability to address poverty, manage living costs and create jobs for the youth will be severely weakened,” Dr. Nchemba said.
“Do not allow yourselves to be used. Protect our peace and reject anyone trying to divide us.”he added
Dr. Nchemba reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preserving unity and called on citizens to prioritise national cohesion over politically motivated agendas.
