New Hotline launched to help Tanzanians track national ID cards

By The Respondents Reporter

The Ministry of Home Affairs has introduced a special phone line to allow citizens to track the status of their national identity card applications.

The initiative, launched today by Interior Minister George Simbachawene, aims to ensure that applicants are informed and can collect their IDs without unnecessary delays.

Speaking during the launch in Dar es Salaam, Minister Simbachawene said that while many identity cards have already been produced and dispatched, a large number remain uncollected because applicants are unaware of their status.

“Across our districts, many identity cards are still waiting for collection. The main reason is that applicants do not know the stage of their application. With this new system, citizens can check whether their card has been issued within five days. If it has not, the system accessible via 15274 will explain why,” he said.

The hotline is expected to improve transparency and efficiency, ensuring that Tanzanians can easily follow up on their national ID applications and access essential services that require identification.
