Deputy Minister for Energy, Salome Makamba, has praised the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) for its strong performance in safeguarding Tanzania’s fuel security and ensuring the country maintains reliable strategic reserves.

Speaking during a meeting with PBPA management in Dar es Salaam on December 6, 2025, Makamba said the agency continues to demonstrate professionalism and efficiency in managing the national fuel supply chain.

“I commend you for the impressive work you are doing. But it is equally important to increase public awareness so that Tanzanians understand your mandate and the value of your services,” she said.

The Deputy Minister also encouraged PBPA to broaden opportunities for local participation in the petroleum sector, underscoring the need to empower Tanzanian investors.

“We need more Tanzanians taking part in this industry. Empower them so they can enter and compete in the business,” she emphasized.

PBPA Director General Erasto Simon outlined key achievements that have strengthened the country’s energy stability.

He noted that PBPA has helped ensure consistent fuel availability, improved the accuracy of national fuel statistics and supported government efforts in revenue planning.

Simon said the Bulk Procurement System (BPS) has become a benchmark in the region, significantly improving transparency and quality control.

“The system has enabled neighbouring countries to procure almost 95 percent of their fuel through Tanzania. It also ensures strict quality standards for all petroleum products entering the country,” he said.

He added that Malawi, Zambia, Uganda, Rwanda, Zimbabwe and Namibia have been visiting Tanzania to learn from PBPA’s model, which is viewed as one of the most efficient procurement frameworks in the region.

Makamba’s visit to PBPA was aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of the agency’s operations and introducing herself in her new role, following her recent appointment by the President to serve as Deputy Minister for Energy.
