Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila has urged editors and journalists to uphold accuracy and avoid spreading misleading information, warning that misinformation can heighten public anxiety and undermine national stability.

Speaking during a meeting with editors from various media houses in Dar es Salaam on December 5, 2025, Chalamila said the media plays a central role in shaping public understanding, especially during politically sensitive periods.

He cautioned that false or exaggerated reports particularly on issues related to security could have serious consequences for the country.

Chalamila referred to the period around the October 29 general election, noting that the government had put in place robust measures to address criminal incidents, including claims of abduction.

He reaffirmed that the regional administration does not tolerate criminal acts and is committed to safeguarding the safety of all residents.

The RC said the government continues to respond to concerns raised by various social groups, including young people, and stressed the importance of maintaining calm while solutions are being pursued.

He urged journalists to provide accurate context and avoid creating tension, saying the public must remain confident that their concerns are being addressed.

Chalamila also appealed to the media and the wider public to trust the commission established by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, and to allow it to complete its work without speculation.

He said national discussions should now be guided by the spirit of reconciliation so that the country can collectively identify areas for improvement.

Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander Jumanne Muliro outlined the operational responsibilities of the police and emphasized the importance of institutional cooperation in maintaining peace.

He assured journalists that the police force values its relationship with the media and will continue to collaborate with them, while also cautioning the public against supporting activities that could trigger unrest.

Tanzania Editors Forum (TEF) Chairperson Deodatus Balile reaffirmed the commitment of editors to promoting peace and stability. He said the media understands the weight of its responsibility, particularly when tensions arise, and will continue to prioritize truth and accuracy.

Veteran journalist Absalom Kibanda urged journalists to rely on verified information rather than emotion or political sentiment.

He also emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between the police and the media, especially during moments of public disturbance.

Editor Joyce Shebe called on the government to strengthen the working environment for journalists, noting that a supportive environment enhances professionalism.

She highlighted the role of investigative journalism and peace-oriented reporting in helping the public understand complex issues and contributing to national cohesion.
