Minister for Communication and Information Technology Angellah Jasmine Mbelwa Kairuki has directed the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority Consumers Consultative Council (TCRA-CCC) to scale up its engagement with citizens and ensure that users of communication services are better protected.
Speaking during a working visit to the council’s offices in Dar es Salaam, the minister said the body must demonstrate stronger oversight in handling public complaints and make its processes more transparent.
She urged the council to provide clear updates on the types of complaints it receives, how many have been resolved, and which ones are still being addressed.
“Consumers need to see how their concerns are being handled. Strengthening this process will build confidence and ensure that service users receive the protection they deserve,” she said.
Kairuki also emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between the council, service providers, and special user groups to ensure their challenges are addressed promptly.
She noted that communication services touch every aspect of daily life, making it essential for the council to operate closely with those it serves.
The minister further encouraged TCRA-CCC to accelerate public education initiatives so that citizens understand their rights and the proper use of communication services.
She said increased awareness would not only empower consumers but also push providers to improve accountability and service quality.
Kairuki described the Consumers Consultative Council as a “critical bridge” between the public and communication service providers, stressing its role in protecting the rights of all users, including people with special needs.
“TCRA-CCC must continue strengthening its systems so that every Tanzanian can benefit fully and fairly from the country’s communication services,” she said as she wrapped up her visit.
