Graduates urged to drive community transformation

Graduates of the Community Development program at Tengeru College have been called upon to become agents of change, using their knowledge and skills to help communities harness local resources and opportunities for sustainable development.

The message was delivered by the Deputy Minister of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Eng. Maryprisca Mahundi, during the 15th graduation ceremony, second intake, held on December 5, 2025, at the college grounds in Arusha.

Hon. Maryprisca reminded the graduates that success depends on a combination of diligence, discipline, creativity, accountability, integrity, and patriotism. She urged them to embrace these values as essential tools for both personal growth and national development.

“Change often brings unexpected challenges, but it also opens doors to new opportunities. I am confident that you are well-prepared not only academically but also mentally, morally, and behaviorally. View these changes as opportunities to innovate, plan, and implement activities that will benefit your future and contribute to the nation,” she said.

The outgoing Chairman of the Tengeru College Governing Board, Dr. John Elton Lusingu, highlighted the vital role of the Board in guiding public institutions.

He said the Board ensures that administrative, strategic, and financial responsibilities are carried out with integrity and accountability, fostering sustainability, efficiency, and effective service delivery.

“Over the past three years, we have achieved remarkable progress in academics, revenue generation, staff development, research, and advisory services. I also take this opportunity to express my gratitude to His Excellency the President for trusting me with the role of Board Chairman,” Dr. Lusingu said.

On behalf of her fellow graduates, the top-performing student of 2024/2025, Rehema Fisso, who completed the Bachelor’s program in Gender and Community Development, thanked the lecturers and mentors at the college for instilling values that will guide them to live disciplined and responsible lives in both professional and personal spheres.

The ceremony underscored the importance of equipping graduates not only with professional knowledge but also with the moral and ethical foundation needed to lead meaningful change in Tanzanian communities.
