The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has officially withdrawn treason charges against cosmetics entrepreneur Jenifer Jovin (26), popularly known as Niffer, and Mika Lucas Chavala, clearing the way for their immediate release.
The decision was announced on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, by Resident Magistrate Aaron Lyamuya. Government lawyer Titus Aron informed the court that the DPP would not pursue the case further.
The case, registered under investigation number 26388/2025, was withdrawn in accordance with Section 92(1) of the Penal Code, Chapter 20, as amended in 2023.
“Having considered the request from the Republic, the court hereby releases the accused,” Magistrate Lyamuya stated.
The move ends a legal saga that had drawn significant public attention, particularly in social media circles, and brings relief to the accused and their families.
Observers note that the decision underscores the DPP’s discretion in pursuing cases where evidence or public interest considerations come into play.
