The women mining community in Mirerani is poised for growth and transformation following the election of Magreth Nelson as Chairperson of the Tanzania Women Miners Association (TAWOMA) Mirerani Branch.

A seasoned entrepreneur in Tanzanite value addition, Nelson’s leadership is expected to strengthen women’s participation in the local mining sector and promote sustainable economic opportunities for female miners.

The election, conducted under the supervision of TAWOMA national leaders and local community development officials, reflected strong support for Nelson, who ran unopposed and secured a unanimous mandate.

Her leadership comes at a time when an increasing number of women in Mirerani are obtaining mining licences, signaling a shift toward organized and formalized mining practices.

In her acceptance remarks, Nelson pledged dedicated service, emphasizing unity, collaboration, and mentorship among women miners.

She encouraged experienced miners to support newcomers in securing licences and building thriving mining businesses, while also advocating for initiatives that enhance skills, professionalism, and economic empowerment.

Under Nelson’s guidance, TAWOMA Mirerani is expected to emerge as a model branch, amplifying women’s voices in Tanzania’s mining sector and contributing to the broader development of the community.

Her tenure promises to promote innovation, increase income-generating opportunities, and establish women miners as key players in the country’s Tanzanite industry.
