Tutuba urges new banking graduates to uphold integrity and innovation

Bank of Tanzania (BoT) Governor Emmanuel Tutuba has urged graduates of the Bank of Tanzania College to uphold integrity, patriotism and innovation as they step into the financial sector, describing the industry as the “heartbeat of the national economy” that demands strong ethical conduct.

Speaking as Guest of Honour at the college’s fourth graduation ceremony in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Mr Tutuba said the future stability of the country’s financial system depends on the character and professionalism of its workers.

He warned that unethical behaviour including fraud, theft and actions that contribute to non-performing loans undermines public trust and the economy at large.

“The Bank of Tanzania will continue to monitor the conduct of financial-sector professionals. Anyone who violates ethical standards will face firm action,” he said.

Mr Tutuba encouraged graduates to embrace innovation and seek opportunities beyond traditional career paths.

He said today’s financial landscape requires “thinkers who can operate beyond conventional systems” and apply practical, competency-based skills to solve emerging challenges.

He also urged them to pursue continuous learning, noting that rapid shifts in technology and global finance demand ongoing professional development.

“Graduation is only the first step it is the beginning of a long journey of learning,” he said.

Earlier, the college’s Principal, Dr Nicas Yabu, said the institution continues to strengthen its position as a regional centre for financial training. During the 2024/25 academic year, the college hosted 127 international participants from 11 countries, including Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Somalia, Burundi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Comoros, Botswana and Ghana.

Their participation generated USD 93,500 in revenue, reflecting the growing demand for the college’s programmes.

A total of 67 graduates were awarded qualifications during the ceremony—36 with Diplomas in Banking Operations and Management and 31 with Master’s Degrees in Banking Leadership.
