Dodoma, Tanzania – President Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced an ambitious plan to double Tanzania’s electricity generation to 8,000 megawatts by 2030, aiming to meet rising demand and support the country’s economic growth.

Speaking at the opening of the 13th Parliament on 14 November 2025, President Samia highlighted the government’s recent success in raising electricity production from 1,600 MW to over 4,000 MW, enabling all villages nationwide to access electricity infrastructure.

“As we look towards 2030, our goal is to double electricity output and expand the grid to reach every settlement across the country,” President Samia said.

She noted that Tanzania is endowed with a wide range of energy sources, including hydro, solar, gas, geothermal, wind, and even nuclear power, all of which will be harnessed to ensure a reliable and sustainable electricity supply.

Under the Strong Grid Program, the government is constructing major transmission lines and expanding the number of substations to enhance power availability for households, industries, and businesses.

President Samia affirmed that by 2030, all regions of Tanzania will be connected to the National Grid, marking a major step toward nationwide electrification.
