President Samia Suluhu Hassan has reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to strengthening the country’s road infrastructure, with a particular focus on completing major trunk and backbone roads under TANROADS and TARURA.
Speaking during the launch of the 13th Parliament of the United Republic of Tanzania in Dodoma, President Samia said the government will significantly increase TARURA’s budget to ensure rural roads remain passable throughout the year.
She noted that reliable rural roads are vital for enabling farmers to transport their produce to markets, as well as ensuring the timely delivery of essential public services to communities across the country.
“In the construction sector, our priority will be to complete trunk and backbone roads, particularly through TANROADS and TARURA,” she said.
“We shall increase the budget of TARURA to ensure that rural roads are passable throughout the year, enabling farmers to get their produce to markets and public services to reach communities on time.”
During her speech, members of parliament responded with loud desk-thumping, showing their appreciation for the specific details she highlighted.
She then responded to the humor, "This shows I have aimed in the right place, and I will put more effort into this area."
The President’s remarks signal a renewed push to boost agricultural productivity, improve service delivery, and strengthen economic inclusion, especially in underserved rural areas.
