The seventh Women’s Athletics Championship will take place from November 28 to 30, 2025, at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, bringing together 155 female athletes from 31 regions across mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
The two-day competition, scheduled for November 29 and 30, will be preceded by a seminar for athletes and referees on November 28.
The event is expected to host the Minister of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Prof. Palamagamba Kabudi, alongside representatives from Japan, JICA, the Athletics Tanzania Federation, and other partner institutions.
Speaking to journalists on November 26, National Sports Council Secretary General Ms. Neema Msitha said all preparations are complete.
“Women’s participation in sports remains lower than men’s, despite ongoing efforts by the government and stakeholders,” she noted, highlighting the importance of events like this in bridging the gap.
Athletes will compete in events including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 5,000m, 4×100m relay races, and javelin throw.
Beyond the competition, the championship will offer workshops on menstrual hygiene, financial discipline, and health check-ups for participants.
Ms. Msitha thanked retired Colonel and former athlete Jumaa Ikangaa for initiating the championship in collaboration with the Government of Japan through JICA.
“This event has been key in discovering female athletic talent, many of whom have proudly represented Tanzania internationally,” she said.
She urged Dar es Salaam residents to attend in large numbers, witness the emerging talent, and support female athletes advancing athletics in the country.
