Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has directed authorities to reopen the Ufufuo na Uzima Church and place it under a six-month supervision period to ensure it adheres to national laws, operational standards, and ethical guidelines governing religious institutions.
Dr. Mwigulu emphasized that regulatory measures should target individual leaders who violate the law, rather than punish worshippers by suspending their places of worship. He instructed relevant authorities to revise the condition that allows for the closure of a church or mosque based solely on the misconduct of its leadership.
“The church should be reopened and allowed to operate, but under strict monitoring for six months. Additionally, write to all religious institutions reminding them of the ethical boundaries and legal frameworks within which they must conduct their activities,” he said.
The Ufufuo na Uzima Church was deregistered on June 2, 2025, after being found in breach of its operational terms, including allegations of engaging in political activities—an action prohibited within places of worship.
Dr. Mwigulu issued the directive on Monday, November 24, 2025, while addressing a public rally following his inspection of areas affected by the October 29 unrest.
