The Ministry of Works has acted promptly to address serious neglect at the Mikese weighbridge in Morogoro, following a visit by Minister Abdalah Ulega on November 22, 2025.

During the inspection, the Minister noted failures in maintaining the weigh-in-motion (WIM) system, which had caused damage and disruptions along the Dar es Salaam–Morogoro highway.

In response, Minister Ulega directed immediate restoration of the weighbridge and ordered the suspension of staff responsible for the lapses.

A specialized team of contractors and weighbridge experts began repairs on November 25, 2025. The work focuses on restoring all systems, including the weigh-in-motion equipment, to full operational standards in line with national and international requirements.

The Ministry also confirmed the suspension of three supervisors pending investigation. Those affected include Eng. Leonard Mombia from TANROADS Head Office, Eng. John Mkumbo of TANROADS Morogoro, and Eng. British Mpeli, Regional Weighbridge Supervisor for Morogoro, alongside the weighbridge manager.

The Ministry reassured the public that while repairs are ongoing, traffic will continue to flow smoothly under special arrangements.

All vehicles will be served in accordance with transport regulations, ensuring minimal disruption to road users.
