Mara Region has achieved a historic milestone in Tanzania’s mining sector, producing 67.41 tonnes of gold valued at about TZS 8.881 trillion between 2021 and October 2025.

Byalugaba Chakupewa, Environmental Officer speaking on behalf of the Mara Regional Mining Officer, said the gold sales have contributed over TZS 605.86 billion to government revenue through royalties, inspection fees, and other levies.

“The government, through the Mara Regional Mining Commission, collected TZS 78.7 billion in the first quarter of this year, which is 37.48 percent of the annual target of TZS 210.3 billion,” Chakupewa revealed.

The office has also issued 2,478 licenses for mining activities, creating jobs, attracting investment, and strengthening council revenues.

Chakupewa highlighted that these achievements are the result of strong sector management and a favorable investment climate established by the Sixth-Phase Government under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

This has helped Mara maintain its position among the country’s top mineral-producing regions.
