Bridging the digital gap: MP Mavunde unveils major tech boost for Mtumba Schools

By Prosper Makene

Mtumba Constituency is set for a major transformation in its education sector as Member of Parliament Anthony Mavunde rolls out an ambitious digital support initiative aimed at improving teaching and learning across all public schools.

MP Mavunde has announced that tomorrow he will donate 20 high-capacity photocopier machines one for each ward and 110 laptops that will go directly to Ward Education Coordinators, Secondary School Head Masters, and Head Teachers of Government Primary Schools.

The move, he says, is designed to ease long-standing challenges that have affected both teachers and students, particularly limited access to learning materials and outdated teaching tools.

For years, many schools in Mtumba have struggled to print exams and instructional materials, often relying on parents’ contributions to cover costs.

The introduction of photocopier machines is expected to significantly cut these expenses and accelerate the preparation of examination papers and learning documents.

MP Mavunde believes the machines will relieve families of unnecessary financial strain while giving schools the autonomy to manage their academic needs more efficiently.

Alongside this, the MP’s donation of laptops marks a deeper shift toward digital-based learning. Each device comes pre-loaded with a rich collection of academic resources, including national exams dating back to 1988, a wide selection of textbooks and reference books, science simulations, subject notes, and video tutorials.

Educators will now have easy access to content that previously required complex coordination or internet access, allowing them to enhance lesson delivery and better support student performance.

Speaking ahead of the handover, MP Mavunde emphasized that technology is no longer a luxury in education but a necessity.

He said the initiative is driven by a vision to bridge the digital divide that continues to disadvantage learners in underserved communities.

According to him, empowering teachers with the right tools is a direct investment in improving pass rates, strengthening competence, and preparing students for a world that increasingly demands digital skills.

Residents of Mtumba have welcomed the move, expressing optimism that it will reshape the education landscape in the constituency.

Many believe the initiative reflects a growing recognition of the role technology plays in academic excellence and community development.

Some educators noted that access to standardized materials especially past national examinations will help students gain confidence and improve preparation for future assessments.

The upcoming distribution marks a significant milestone for Mtumba. It not only demonstrates MP Mavunde’s commitment to uplifting the quality of education but also sets a practical example of how leaders can address development gaps through sustainable initiatives.

As the constituency awaits tomorrow’s handover, the focus now shifts to how these tools will transform classrooms and unlock new opportunities for learners across the region.
