Korean importers seek Made-in-Tanzania products as trade opportunities grow

Major business companies from South Korea have expressed strong interest in purchasing Made-in-Tanzania products, opening new trade opportunities for local manufacturers following a high-level Tanzania–Korea Business Forum held in Dar es Salaam.

The forum, coordinated by the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade) in partnership with the Korea Importers Association (KOIMA), brought together 15 large Korean companies—collectively importing goods worth more than USD 700 million annually.

Speaking on behalf of Tanzania today, TanTrade Director General Dr. Latifa M. Khamis urged local producers to take full advantage of the growing demand for Tanzanian products in the Korean market.

“These companies are big industry players in Korea. They buy high-quality products, and this is a golden opportunity for Tanzanian businesses,” Dr. Khamis said.

She encouraged local manufacturers to register their products and obtain the official Made in Tanzania mark to enhance visibility and credibility in international markets.

She also invited the Korean delegation to participate in the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) — Sabasaba 2026 — where Tanzania will showcase various agricultural products, particularly coffee and other Made-in-Tanzania goods, to boost brand recognition in Korea.

Tanzania and Korea currently trade in several sectors, including agriculture, minerals, cotton, rice, cashew nuts, cosmetics, and technology.

During the forum, the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) and KOIMA signed a business cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening private sector collaboration between the two countries.

The event was officially opened by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and took place at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dar es Salaam.
