The Tanzania Judo Association (JATA) says it will rollout pioneer Judo in Schools program starting with ten schools of the country.
Innocent Mallya who is JATA Parmanent secretary and returned recently from The United States of America (USA)where he was attending a three weeks Coaching International Enrichment Certificate Program (ICECP)course at Delaware in the states.
He said the pioneer program starts with Primary Schools from Kigoma ,Kilimanjaro , Arusha ,Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam mallya said JATA will next year organize a course for Judo School program and currently Dar es Salaam based school Josephian Primary School is implementing the program.
“ We plans to roll out the Judo in Schools program next year ,we will start with ten schools, teachers of the subject in schools are the ones who graduated at the beginners course which our association(JATA)Conducted with support from The Tanzania Olympics Committee(TOC)which was held early this year in Kibaha,Coast Region,” he said .
He said Judo in Schools aims at having new generation of Judokas and schools are better place for identifying new talents which will be natured to become future Judokas .
He further said the program will positively influence children’s physical, mental and social development.
He was attending the course through funding from the Tanzania Olympics Committee(TOC)and modules of the course include Project Proposal Writing,Sports Biometrics Technology,Sports Nutrition , Character of Strength and Artificial Intelligence(AI)in writing Proposal.
The Jata Secretary General is the holder of Judo Level 1,2 and 3 coaching certificates and the first local Judo coach to attend the ICECP course.
Prior to his departure to the USA , Mallya was attending the course online , he also said upon completing the course,he will use the knowledge gained to develop proficiency in many areas including sports science ,talent identification ,Judokas development and coaching, saying the focus of the program includes training participants to identify and develop.
“ The course will also help us( participants) with the skills and competencies needed to educate aspiring coaches in our country, The program will lay theoretical foundations and offer practical applications for the further growth of sport and the Olympic ideals in the country,” he was qouted.
The intended outcome for ICECP participants is to return to their countries and to serve as coaches within their respective sports as well as become foundation builders for future coaches and athletes while spreading the Olympic spirit.
According to IOC ,the ICECP course is aimed at providing national level coaches and those responsible for the development of the sport national coaching structures in their countries with a practical program orientated towards developing proficiency in the areas of sport sciences, talent identification, athlete development, coaching education, coaching management, grass roots sport development and ethical aspects of coaching at all levels of competition and across multiple sports.
