IGP Wambura urges community cooperation to protect peace and national unity

The Tanzania Police Force has placed renewed priority on strengthening public confidence in law enforcement, with nearly 5,000 newly trained officers set to reinforce community safety and help preserve the nation’s unity.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Camillus Wambura delivered the message on November 21, 2025, while presiding over the graduation of Basic Police Training Course No. 1/2024/2025 at the Tanzania Police School in Moshi.

He said the 4,826 recruits will be deployed nationwide at a time when divisive narratives are increasingly visible in public spaces.

IGP Wambura cautioned that Tanzania’s peace cannot be taken for granted, emphasizing that any attempts to divide people along political, religious or resource-based lines pose a direct threat to the country’s stability.

“Community trust is the backbone of effective policing. As these new officers enter service, their professionalism and integrity will shape how citizens engage with the Police Force—and ultimately strengthen the unity that defines our nation,” he said.

He underscored that cooperation between the public and the police is essential in preventing crime, protecting property and maintaining harmony. He urged Tanzanians to work closely with the new officers to reinforce collective security.

Addressing the graduating officers, IGP Wambura directed them to uphold the highest ethical standards, noting that their behaviour on duty will determine the level of confidence citizens place in law enforcement.

The IGP also commended President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for sustained efforts to modernize the Police Force.

He cited ongoing improvements in recruitment, housing, welfare, equipment and office infrastructure as critical steps in enhancing police performance and public service delivery.

The twelve-month training programme equipped the recruits with skills in crime prevention, community policing, discipline and operational readiness preparing them to support national security and contribute to long-term social stability.
