Thirty-one participants are benefiting from a specialized gym and fitness training program that began on November 24 and will run until November 29 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium Hall in Dar es Salaam.
Deputy Director of the Sports Development College, Malya Salum Mtumbuka, said the training targets gym instructors and fitness coaches across all sports disciplines.
“The aim of this training is to build the capacity and enhance the skills of these professionals. While the sports sector is rapidly growing, many trainers lack in-depth knowledge on how to guide exercises effectively,” Mtumbuka explained.
He added that the program specifically engages trainers in gym exercises while also addressing coaches in all sports disciplines, ensuring that participants gain practical and comprehensive skills.
Participants expressed appreciation for the opportunity. Peter Fernand, a teacher of Physical Fitness and Gym Education, said the training will significantly improve how he guides athletes.
“Previously, I taught without formal certification. Now, I will receive a certificate upon completion. I am grateful to the government, through this college, for providing this valuable opportunity,” Fernand said.
Maria Kuwelo, a participant from Manyara, noted that the training will help her deliver exercises correctly and safely.
“I will use the skills I acquire to guide athletes in the right techniques, helping them achieve the results they want,” Maria said.
The program underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening the capacity of sports professionals in Tanzania, ensuring quality training and promoting physical fitness nationwide.
