The 32-kilometre Utete-Kingupira road in Rufiji District, Pwani Region, is progressing steadily under the innovative “Eco-Roads” technology, with authorities confident it will transform transportation and local livelihoods.
Deputy Parmanent Secretary of the President’s Office, Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), Engineer Rogatus Mativila, recently inspected the project and emphasized the urgency of timely completion ahead of the rainy season.
“Two kilometres of this road will be paved with asphalt, while the remaining sections will use gravel. I have full confidence in RAPCO Construction Company, which successfully completed the Chumbi-Kiegele road project. This project is already 40 percent complete, and I expect it to be finished on schedule,” he said.
Engineer Mativila also directed the Pwani Regional TARURA Manager to closely supervise the project, highlighting its significance for the movement of agricultural produce and improved access to services.
According to Rufiji District TARURA Manager, Engineer Nicholaus Ludigery, the TZS 2.5 billion project is vital for communities in Utete and across Rufiji.
The road not only links local settlements to the Selous National Reserve but also serves farmers engaged in cashew nut, orange, and other crop cultivation.
Completion of the road is expected to significantly reduce transportation costs, improve access to social services, and enable farmers to deliver their produce to markets efficiently, enhancing economic activity in the region.
With its strategic location and modern construction approach, the Utete-Kingupira road is set to become a key infrastructure asset, supporting both rural development and tourism in Pwani.
