Senior officials from five key ministries have met in Morogoro to coordinate efforts aimed at accelerating the completion of the Sh329 billion Kidunda Dam project, a government-funded initiative expected to boost water supply in Dar es Salaam, Coast and Morogoro regions.
The inter-ministerial meeting, chaired by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water, Engineer Mwajuma Waziri, focused on strengthening collaboration to address existing challenges and ensure timely delivery of the strategic project.
“We have brought together key sectoral ministries contributing to the completion of the Kidunda project to review progress and resolve implementation challenges,” Waziri said. “Cross-sector collaboration is crucial because working together will help us overcome obstacles and develop better strategies for this important project.”
Waziri emphasized the need for continuous environmental education and protection of water sources during project implementation to ensure the dam remains sustainable after completion.
“It is important that as we build this dam, we also work together to promote environmental conservation so that once the project is completed, we do not face challenges of siltation or low water levels caused by environmental degradation,” she said.
Morogoro Regional Administrative Secretary, Dr. Musa Ali Musa, urged project implementers to strengthen engagement with surrounding communities to prevent grievances that could disrupt the project’s progress.
The meeting brought together officials from the Ministry of Water, the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Energy, and the Morogoro Regional Secretariat.
Funded entirely by the Government of Tanzania, the Kidunda Dam project is designed to secure a reliable water supply for domestic and industrial use in Dar es Salaam and neighbouring regions, while also enhancing water resource management in the country’s central corridor.
