The Managing Director of the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO), Mr. Lazaro Twange, has conducted an inspection tour of ongoing electricity projects in Dar es Salaam,
The tour included the construction of a new modern power substation at Mabibo and a 220-kilovolt transmission line from Kimara–Ubungo–Mabibo to Ilala.
Speaking during his visit to the Mabibo Substation project site on October 7, 2025, Mr. Twange said that the project has reached 70 percent completion, urging it to be done within the timeframe.
“This is a major undertaking. I urge you to work day and night to ensure it is completed on time." said Lazaro Twange.
Meanwhile, progress on the 16.5-kilometre transmission line project currently stands at 28.4 percent, with 13 out of 26 foundations completed along the section stretching from Ubungo to Ilala via Mabibo.
"It is not acceptable to rush at the last minute, especially since the reasons and timelines for this project are well understood. There will be no justification for seeking an extension,” Mr. Twange emphasized.
Once completed, the project is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency of power transmission from Kinyerezi to Mabibo, thereby strengthening the Ubungo substation’s capacity and improving the overall reliability of electricity supply across various parts of Dar es Salaam
