The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has urged residents along the country’s coastline to remain alert and stay informed through official weather updates, as remnants of the tropical depression “CHENGE” continue to bring periods of light rainfall in some areas.

In its latest update, TMA confirmed that the tropical depression, which formed over the southwestern Indian Ocean last week, has significantly weakened and completely dissipated before reaching the Tanzanian coast.

However, its remnants consisting of rain-bearing clouds  have continued to affect weather conditions across coastal regions, including Dar es Salaam, Pwani, Lindi, and Tanga, as well as the islands of Unguja and Pemba.

“The system no longer poses any danger, but it has left behind remnants that are still causing isolated rainfall,” said the Authority.

“For example, by 6 p.m. today, the Julius Nyerere International Airport weather station reported 9.1 millimetres of rainfall over the past nine hours, while the Dar es Salaam Port station recorded 3.5 millimetres in the same period.”he added

TMA said that these weather conditions are expected to persist through Tuesday, October 28, with light and scattered rains forecast for some areas.

The Authority assured the public that no significant impacts are anticipated but stressed the importance of continued vigilance.

“Sea users and coastal communities are advised to follow the latest forecasts and advisories issued by the Tanzania Meteorological Authority and to seek professional guidance when necessary,” TMA added.

The Authority has been closely monitoring CHENGE since it developed in the Indian Ocean, issuing regular updates to ensure public awareness and safety.

Meteorologists said that although the system weakened rapidly, it serves as a reminder of the need for communities to remain alert during the tropical weather season.

TMA reaffirmed its commitment to continue providing accurate and timely weather information to support disaster preparedness, protect lives and property, and promote safety in all sectors affected by weather changes especially maritime and coastal activities.
