Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has hailed teachers as the backbone of Tanzania’s future, describing them as nation-builders who shape the character, skills, and values of the next generation.

Speaking on Friday, October 3, 2025, during World Teachers’ Day celebrations at Ushirombo Secondary School in Bukombe District, Geita Region, Majaliwa said teachers play a central role in developing responsible, skilled, and innovative citizens who drive national progress.

“Every leader, professional, and innovator begins their journey in the classroom. Teachers are the foundation of every success story in our country. Through their dedication, they instill knowledge, skills, and patriotism in Tanzanian youth, shaping citizens who can contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.

He added that under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the Sixth-Phase Government continues to strengthen the teaching profession through career progression, enhanced professional training, and annual recruitment of new teachers to address shortages.

Majaliwa directed the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government  and the President’s Office – Public Service Management  to ensure equitable distribution of teachers across the country, guaranteeing that every child has access to quality education.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr. Doto Biteko, praised teaching as a unique profession that not only shapes careers but also molds citizens.

“Teaching is the only profession that produces individuals greater than the profession itself. Teachers devote their time and energy to raising responsible parents, productive workers, and engaged citizens. They are, in essence, the second creators of life after parents,” Biteko said.

He added that the progress and civility of any society depend on the dedication of its teachers. “The true measure of a community’s advancement lies in the impact of its educators,” he said.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Caroline Nombo, said the government has implemented initiatives to empower teachers, including modern school infrastructure and continuous professional development to meet global education standards.

“The government values the tireless efforts of teachers who remain at the heart of national success. Every Tanzanian has benefited from a teacher’s guidance. We salute all teachers for dedicating their knowledge and energy to shaping our nation,” Prof. Nombo said.

This year’s World Teachers’ Day celebrations in Bukombe underscored the critical role of teachers not only as educators but also as architects of Tanzania’s future, reminding citizens that the nation’s progress begins in the classroom.
