Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) marked the close of Customer Service Week by conducting on-the-spot registration for qualified seafarers, part of efforts to improve efficiency and service delivery in the maritime sector.
TASAC Director General Mohamed Salum said the exercise, held at the agency’s registration offices in Dar es Salaam, was part of the global Customer Service Week commemorations themed “Mission: Possible."
“This week reminds us that quality customer service is possible when we build a culture of commitment, collaboration and innovation in our work,” Salum said.
He announced that TASAC will soon introduce digital seafarers’ certificates to modernize document management and strengthen verification processes.
“Through this new system, seafarers will be able to access and confirm their certificates anywhere. The documents will include international security features such as QR codes and electronic signatures to eliminate forgery risks,” he said.
Salum added that TASAC is finalizing procedures to ensure Tanzanian seafarers’ certificates gain official recognition by the European Union (EU), which would allow them to work on EU-flagged vessels or those owned by European companies.
“EU recognition will open new employment opportunities for Tanzanian seafarers and strengthen the country’s competitiveness in the global maritime labour market,” he said.
Participants in the registration exercise welcomed the initiative, praising TASAC for bringing services closer to clients and adopting digital solutions in line with international standards.
According to TASAC, the registration drive and upcoming digital certification system form part of Tanzania’s broader government strategy to strengthen maritime transport through technology-driven reforms and improved customer service.
