As Tanzania heads to the General Election on October 29, 2025, traditional Maasai leaders, known as Malaigwanan, are urging citizens to make their voices heard at the ballot box and reject calls for protests that could threaten peace and security.
Speaking at a regular Orkiama meeting in Donyomorwak, Siha District, Kilimanjaro, Mr. Jeremia Laizer, Secretary of Malaigwanan Tanzania, emphasized that voting is the most effective way for citizens to choose leaders who prioritize their welfare, community development, and national unity.
“Your vote matters. Every citizen has the power to influence who leads and how decisions are made in their community and country,” Mr. Laizer said.
“Peace begins with us. Avoid spreading division or hatred. By voting responsibly, you are protecting your family, your community, and the future of your children.”he added
The meeting was attended by CCM Central Committee Member Ms. Namelok Sokoine, who praised the Maasai leaders for encouraging citizens to participate actively and safely in the election.
She highlighted the achievements of the Sixth-Phase Government and urged all Tanzanians to turn out in large numbers on October 29.
Other community leaders also pledged to act as ambassadors of peace, educating citizens on the dangers of unlawful protests, which often cause property damage and affect vulnerable groups, including women, children, and the elderly.
The Maasai leaders’ message is clear: Tanzanians hold the power to shape their nation through peaceful participation in elections.
By going to the polls, citizens can safeguard peace, strengthen unity, and secure a better future for themselves and generations to come.
