Tanzania and Egypt have used the 52nd anniversary of Egypt’s October 6, 1973 military victory to highlight and deepen their strategic partnership, focusing on peace, regional security, and joint development initiatives.
The ceremony, held on October 1, 2025, at Johari Rotana Hotel, was led by Egypt’s Military Attaché to Tanzania, Colonel Mokhtar Mohamed Mokhtar Mady.
The event drew top officials, including the Guest of Honor, Minister of Defence and National Service, Hon. Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax.
Colonel Mady described the October victory as a historic moment of courage and resilience for Egypt, while emphasizing that the country continues to prioritize peace and constructive international cooperation.
“Egypt, which reclaimed its land through determination, always seeks dialogue, partnership, and development. Our military strength is matched by a commitment to peace,” he said.
The Military Attaché praised the close defence collaboration with Tanzania, including joint training, intelligence sharing, and border security, calling the partnership “built on transparency, trust, and mutual respect.”
He also thanked the Tanzanian Ministry of Defence and the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (JWTZ) for sustaining this unique cooperation.
Minister Dr. Stergomena Tax said the anniversary is a reminder that strategic partnerships, built on shared values and long-term vision, are key to regional stability and socio-economic growth.
“The lesson from October is that unity, foresight, and commitment can overcome major challenges,” Dr. Tax said. She also acknowledged the historic bond between Tanzania and Egypt, established by founding leaders Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere and President Gamal Abdel Nasser.
Highlighting Egypt’s continued support, Dr. Tax praised the country’s role in Tanzania’s Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP), describing it as a symbol of enduring solidarity.
She said military and development cooperation between the two nations strengthens regional stability, combats terrorism, and promotes economic growth across Africa.
The event illustrated how historical milestones, like the October victory, continue to inspire contemporary collaboration, with Tanzania and Egypt reaffirming their commitment to a shared vision of peace, security, and sustainable development on the continent.
