The National Environment Management Council (NEMC) has expressed strong readiness to participate in this year’s Public Institutions and Private Companies Sports Federation (SHIMMUTA) games.

On October 28, 2025, the council officially unveiled sports equipment donated by the Adaptation Fund Project, which will be used by its teams during the competition.

Speaking during the handover event, NEMC Director General Dr. Immaculate Sware Semesi emphasized the importance of sports in promoting health and productivity, noting that physical fitness enhances work performance.

She also underscored the council’s continued commitment to environmental conservation and management across the country.

“Sports play a vital role not only in improving our health but also in building unity and teamwork. Through this participation, we aim to reach more communities with messages about environmental protection and climate change adaptation,” said Dr. Semesi.

The NEMC Sports Chairperson, Mr. Fortinatus Patrick, said the council’s teams are fully prepared to compete in all registered events, expressing confidence in achieving impressive results in this year’s tournament.

Meanwhile, NEMC Director of Administration and Finance, Mr. Dickson Mjinja, who also serves as the team’s patron, said the institution is participating with a competitive spirit rather than mere representation.

NEMC, in collaboration with the Climate Change Adaptation Project, has coordinated preparations for SHIMMUTA 2025, which will be held in Mwanza from November 13 to 29.

The event aims not only to promote sportsmanship but also to raise public awareness on environmental protection and climate change issues.
