NCAA brings relief to Kakesio Ward with new water project

By Our Reporter

Communities in Kakesio Ward, located in the Ngorongoro Division of Ngorongoro District in Arusha Region, are set to receive long-awaited relief following the completion of a new water project designed to provide clean and reliable water for both domestic and livestock use.

The Government, through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), has drilled a 110-metre-deep borehole capable of producing up to 80,000 litres of water per day.

The initiative aims to ease the daily struggle faced by residents and pastoralists who have long depended on seasonal water sources.

According to the NCAA, the project forms part of a broader government commitment to improve the welfare of communities living within and around the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA).

The program seeks to balance conservation efforts with human development needs.

Similar projects have already been completed in Mount Matiti, benefiting residents of Endulen and Laetoli Wards, while another project is scheduled for implementation in Olbalbal Ward to tackle persistent water shortages.

Officials say the intervention reflects the government’s strategy to enhance access to clean water, promote health, and support livestock production — key aspects of sustainable community development in Ngorongoro’s semi-arid environment.
