Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, joined Foreign Ministers from Africa and the Nordic countries Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Sweden, and Finland on a high-level visit to Victoria Falls, the spectacular waterfall on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia.
The visit was part of the 22nd Africa–Nordic Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held on October 2–3, 2025, in Victoria Falls, aimed at promoting regional cooperation on natural resource management and tourism-driven economic growth.
During the tour, ministers learned about the history and geographical significance of Victoria Falls, one of the world’s natural wonders discovered by British explorer Dr. David Livingstone in 1855.
The site was highlighted as a key driver of tourism and economic development for the region.
Speaking during the visit, Minister Kombo described the meeting as an important platform to showcase Africa’s tourism potential, including Tanzania’s globally renowned attractions such as Mount Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti, and Zanzibar.
He noted that such initiatives strengthen tourism diplomacy and open new markets for visitors from the Nordic countries.
“Experiencing natural wonders like Victoria Falls enhances our understanding of how Africa’s resources can be leveraged for regional cooperation and tourism promotion,” Minister Kombo said.
The Tanzanian delegation included CP Suzan Kaganda, Ambassador of Tanzania to Zimbabwe.
Minister Kombo highlighted the critical role of embassies in promoting tourism and creatively marketing Tanzania’s attractions to increase visitor numbers and stimulate economic growth.
