The Tanzania Police Force has reinforced its preparedness to safeguard peace and security ahead of the country’s General Election.
Through spokesperson DCP David Misime, the force highlighted both preventive measures and legal enforcement to curb crime and criminal activity during this critical period.
DCP Misime cautioned against the misuse of these platforms, emphasizing that spreading unverified or provocative content can incite conflict and attract legal consequences.
“Sharing false information or content designed to create panic is punishable under the law,” he stated.
This reflects the force’s recognition of the evolving nature of digital threats to public order.
The police have deployed over 3,900 officers across all wards in mainland Tanzania, and 388 officers in Zanzibar shehias, to conduct community engagement campaigns on responsible social media use and civic awareness.
DCP Misime also reassured the public that the nation remains secure, noting that operational measures are in place to protect citizens and their property on election day and beyond.
He commended Tanzanians for maintaining civility during campaign activities and urged continued cooperation in reporting criminal activities, reflecting a strategy that blends enforcement with community participation.
The Tanzania Police Force’s approach demonstrates a clear analytical understanding of modern security challenges, balancing traditional policing with digital-age vigilance.
By integrating public education with operational readiness, authorities aim to ensure that the electoral process proceeds peacefully and that social media serves as a constructive, rather than disruptive, platform.
