The Tanzanian government has invested over TZS 527 billion in 13 major national projects in Tabora over the past four years under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

These projects cover 612.4 kilometers of roads, four bridges, and five weighbridges, including two at Kizengi and one at Mkolye, aimed at boosting trade, travel, and economic growth in the region.

Tabora has a total road network of 2,188.09 kilometers, including 1,077.12 kilometers of trunk roads, 1,073.37 kilometers of regional roads, and 37.6 kilometers of district roads.

Of this, 803.66 kilometers of trunk roads are paved, while 273.46 kilometers remain gravel. Regional roads include 44.75 kilometers paved and 1,028.62 kilometers gravel, and district roads comprise 4 kilometers paved and 33.6 kilometers gravel.

Speaking on October 22, 2025, TANROADS Tabora Manager, Engineer Raphael Mlimaji, highlighted that seven projects worth TZS 488.152 billion have been completed, accounting for 92.5% of works, while six other projects valued at TZS 39.598 billion are still under construction.

Completed projects include the near-completion of Tabora Airport upgrades (97%) by Beijing Construction Engineering Group at a cost of TZS 27.943 billion.

Major road projects include Nyahua–Chaya (85.4 km) with two bridges built by CHICO at TZS 117.939 billion, Usesula–Komanga (108 km) by Jiangxi Geo Engineering Group for TZS 158.825 billion, and Komanga–Kasinde (108 km) with Koga Bridge for TZS 140.025 billion, constructed by CHINA WU YI Co Ltd under TECU consultancy.

Other completed works include Kazilambwa–Chagu Road (36 km) at TZS 48.652 billion and the Kizengi weighbridge for TZS 15.058 billion. Smaller but strategic works, such as a 1 km section on Mambali–Bukene–Itobo, a 10-meter bridge, and access roads on Ipole–Rungwa, were delivered by Salum Motor Transport Co. Ltd at TZS 1.650 billion under TECU supervision.

Ongoing projects include Puge–Ziba–Choma (109 km, 75% complete), Tabora–Ulyankulu (70% complete), Tutuo–Usoke (69 km, 20% complete), Inala–Ifucha (5.3 km), and Tabora–Mambali–Bukene–Itobo (114.3 km), all aimed at improving transport efficiency and regional connectivity.

Since the 2020/21 financial year, the government has also maintained 637 bridges across Tabora’s road network, with TZS 133.7 billion allocated for repairs.

Engineer Mlimaji said completing these roads, bridges, and airport facilities will enhance trade, reduce travel time, promote tourism, improve access to services, and lower the government’s recurrent road maintenance costs.
