New livestock headquarters to improve services for citizens in Dodoma

By Edward Kondela

Farmers and livestock owners in Tanzania are set to benefit from faster and more efficient services as six key livestock institutions come together in a single headquarters building in Njedengwa, Dodoma.

Secretary-General of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Ms. Agnes Meena, urged the institutions to cooperate closely in supervising the construction to ensure it is completed on time and meets high-quality standards.

She noted that the shared facility will address the chronic shortage of office space and improve coordination among the institutions.

The building will house the Tanzania Livestock Research Institute (TALIRI), Tanzania Dairy Board (TDB), Tanzania Meat Board (TMB), Livestock Training Agency (LITA), Tanzania Veterinary Laboratory Agency (TVLA), and the National Ranching Company (NARCO).

While TALIRI has formally signed the contract, Ms. Meena emphasized that all six institutions must actively participate in overseeing the project.

The main contractor, CJIETC from China, and supervising consultant, the Tanzania Building Agency (TBA), have been tasked with completing the project within 24 months, followed by one year of quality supervision.

TALIRI Director General, Prof. Erick Komba, said the 10-acre project follows a model promoted by the Prime Minister’s Office to streamline government services in Dodoma.

He added that the approach could be extended to other ministries to make services more accessible to citizens.

Engineer Wencleaus Kiziba of CJIETC assured that construction will adhere to budget and quality standards.

The total cost of the headquarters is estimated at TZS 54 billion, including TZS 49 billion for construction and TZS 4.5 billion for supervision.

Once complete, the new headquarters will allow citizens to access multiple livestock services from veterinary support and dairy services to meat regulation and livestock training all in one location, saving time and improving efficiency.
