Commuters along the busy Kimara–Kivukoni rapid transit corridor are set to benefit from improved travel as the Government introduces 60 new buses, raising the total fleet to 90.
The expansion is expected to significantly reduce congestion and long waiting times that have long frustrated passengers.
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa inspected the route on Thursday, October 2, 2025, and described the fleet upgrade as a major step toward improving urban transport services in Dar es Salaam.
“Today marks a new chapter for commuters on this route. With the additional buses, services are more reliable, and passengers can expect timely journeys,” said Majaliwa.
Passengers who experienced the upgraded service praised the improvements. “Today, the buses ran on time, and the ride was comfortable. This is a huge relief,” one commuter said.
The Prime Minister also directed the Dar Rapid Transit Agency (DART) and Udart Bus Company (UDART) to fully implement electronic card payments instead of cash to curb revenue losses and streamline operations.
He called for the cards to be used widely, including at football stadiums, Azam Marine transport, SGR services, and bus terminals.
Majaliwa further tasked the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner and DART management to ensure smooth operations and maintain service quality.
He assured residents that the Government is committed to addressing transport challenges along the corridor.
The fleet expansion is part of broader efforts to modernize urban transport in the city, offering residents a safer, faster, and more convenient commuting experience while reducing daily travel frustrations.
