Regional Commissioner of Dar es Salaam, Albert Chalamila, has visited several major bridge construction sites across the city, underlining their crucial role in addressing recurrent flooding and improving daily life for residents.

Key projects inspected included the Jangwani Bridge linking Ilala and Kinondoni districts, the Mto Mzinga Bridge in Temeke, and the Nguvu and Geti Jeusi bridges in Kigamboni.

Speaking during the visit, RC Chalamila highlighted that the government is committed to resolving long-standing challenges, particularly floods, which have frequently disrupted households, businesses, and transport.

“These bridges are more than just roads they are solutions to persistent flooding that has affected our communities for years,” he said.

He called on contractors to ensure timely completion of all projects while maintaining high construction standards and urged residents to support the government by protecting and preserving the infrastructure.

The RC expressed gratitude to President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for allocating substantial funding for the projects.

The Jangwani Bridge alone is valued at over TZS 97 billion, the Mto Mzinga Bridge and the road to Kongowe at TZS 54 billion, while the Nguvu and Geti Jeusi bridges each have budgets exceeding TZS 9 billion.

During the visit, RC Chalamila also reminded citizens of the upcoming general election on October 29, 2025, urging peaceful participation.

“Every Tanzanian has a responsibility to protect peace. Any attempts to disrupt order will not be tolerated,” he said.

Engineer Razerk Kyamba, TANROADS Manager for Dar es Salaam, reported that all bridge projects are progressing well despite some delays caused by heavy rains.

He assured residents that the bridges are being constructed to high standards to ensure long-term durability and resilience against floods.

District officials from Ilala and Kinondoni praised the government for prioritizing these initiatives, noting that the new bridges will provide safe, reliable transport routes and significantly reduce flood-related disruptions in their communities.

Residents who attended the inspection welcomed the developments, commending the government’s proactive approach in tackling flooding.

They also requested additional services, including a police post in Mzinga and a secondary school to meet the needs of the growing population.

These strategic infrastructure projects are set to strengthen Dar es Salaam’s road network, enhance mobility, and protect communities from environmental hazards, reflecting the government’s commitment to sustainable urban development and improved quality of life for all residents.
