Church leaders unite in call for peace ahead of 2025 elections

Religious leaders from Tanzania’s Apostolic and Prophetic Churches have held a special prayer service in Morogoro, urging citizens to uphold peace and reject any calls for violence as the nation approaches the October 29, 2025 General Election.

The service, held at Voice of Healing Church, was led by the Union of Apostolic and Prophetic Churches President, Prophet Joshua Aram Mwantyala.

He emphasized that Tanzania’s long-standing culture of dialogue and unity has made the country a model of peace in Africa.

“Tanzania’s independence was achieved through conversation, not conflict. This heritage is our pride, and we must protect it. Any attempts to disrupt our peace through unlawful protests are unacceptable,” Prophet Joshua said.

He warned that religious leaders who predict or encourage unrest act against the will of God. “True prophets respect authority and follow God’s guidance, promoting peace. Anyone inciting disorder violates both our culture and the law. We must reject such actions to preserve our nation’s harmony,” he added.

Apostle Fotunata Andengenye urged citizens, especially women, to lead in defending peace. “Elections are important, but what matters most is stability. Let us reject violence and embrace dialogue to safeguard our families and the nation,” she said.

Bishop Dr. Willy Ackyoo of Bethel Calvary Church reinforced the message, quoting Romans 10:3 to highlight the importance of knowing and defending one’s rights peacefully.

“Words have power. If some call for demonstrations, we must speak words of peace. Let us pray for Tanzania’s safety and unity,” he said.

The leaders concluded by praying for President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Members of Parliament, and local councillors, urging all political, social, and religious leaders to prioritize dialogue and national unity in the lead-up to the polls.
