Tanzania’s national boxing team, the “Black FARU,” will feature prominently today as eight of its fighters compete in the semifinals of the African Boxing Championships, Zone Three, underway in Nairobi, Kenya.
Leading the charge are Yusuf Changalawe and Kassim Mbundwike, also known as “Mfupa wa Sokwe,” who will set the pace for their teammates in the ring.
Changalawe will take on Fotouo Totap Jr. of Cameroon in the Light Heavyweight (80kg) category, while Mbundwike, who advanced automatically after his DR Congo opponent withdrew in the quarterfinals, will face Alvine Odour of Kenya B in the Light Middleweight (71kg) division.
Other male boxers in action include King Lucas, who will clash with Uganda’s Maniloba Farahat in the Light Welterweight (63.5kg) category, and Azizi Chala, who will meet Issouhou Mouhaman of Cameroon after defeating his DR Congo rival in the previous round.
In the women’s division, Zulfa Macho will battle Uganda’s Bisambu Deborah in the Bantamweight (54kg) class, while Aisha Iddi, known as “Shisha,” will face Uganda’s Muduwa Brenda in the Light Flyweight (50kg) category.
Vumilia Twalibu (Lightweight – 60kg) will compete against DR Congo’s Munga Zalia, and Rachel Msengi (Light Heavyweight – 81kg) from Dodoma will take on Kenya’s Lorna Kusa.
Tanzanian boxing fans are eagerly anticipating today’s semifinals, hoping their fighters continue their winning streak and advance to the finals, further cementing Tanzania’s reputation in African boxing.
