Dar es Salaam. Tanzanian veterinary and animal-nutrition firm Thrishool Exim Ltd has unveiled a rapid testing solution for detecting mycotoxins in animal feed, saying the kit can deliver results in as little as five minutes.
The announcement was made at the International Pig Exhibition held last week at Ubungo Plaza in Dar es Salaam. Dr. Kimuri Rioba, Technical Sales Manager at Thrishool Exim, said the test is intended to give farmers a fast, practical tool to protect livestock from invisible contaminants that undermine productivity.
Analyzing the company’s statement, Dr. Odede stressed that livestock health extends beyond daily routines and begins with gut health.
“When looking for gut health, we are attacking the invisible enemy on the farm. Mycotoxins are poisonous substances produced by fungi when crops are infected in the field or improperly stored. They damage animals’ guts, livers, and overall productivity,” Dr. Odede explained.
The firm has built its reputation supplying animal feed additives, vitamins, vaccines and biosecurity products to farmers across Tanzania and the wider East African region.
The company says its 20 years of experience in the field positions it to tackle pressing agricultural challenges, particularly in the poultry and livestock sectors.
Mycotoxins, toxic compounds produced by fungi, continue to pose a significant threat to food security and livestock health in Tanzania. They commonly contaminate staple crops such as maize, groundnuts, and sunflowers, especially when harvests are poorly dried or inadequately stored. For farmers, the effects can be severe: impaired growth, liver disease, weakened immunity, and significant economic losses.
Thrishool Exim states that the rapid test is designed as a screening tool to help farmers quickly identify contaminated feed and take timely action to protect their animals’ health and productivity.
